Day 38 - vintage look

Sian bought a new hat today so we could try a vintage look portrait.  I tried a few lighting set ups, but this was my favourite.

Another shot and lighting info for those who click...

In this first shot the light is a single bare flash (YN-460-II) placed high and behind right.  The front light is all from a large white board reflector held just out of shot camera left, giving a huge soft light source for very soft shadows.  I like the contrast between the hard, crisp light on the hat and the soft light across the face and the checker-board opposites of light and shade it creates.

In this one the light is positioned at 90 degrees to Sian, rather than behind, increasing the prominence of the hat in the shot.  As with the first shot, this used a single flash and a large white board reflector.  The aim here was to create something a little more subtle and unusual by hiding more of the face and just showing the eyelashes below the brim of the hat.
