Day 6

A first attempt at some Rembrandt lighting, with the help of my lovely wife.

Strobist info: Sigma 530 DG Super @ 1/32 power above right; reflector to the left to soften the shadow

  1. I like the light/dark contrast. The composition works well with the lighting - big black space opposing the light space.

Have you got a second flash unit? I think a second light behind and to the right lighting the back of Sian's hair would work just to put a highlight on the edge of her hair. What do you think?

Let me know if you grow bored/annoyed by my critique. I think your pics are great but will give opinion if it's helpful and welcomed!

  2. It's funny you should say that, because I was thinking that at the time but only had the one strobe.

Luckily, my second flash (an old Vivitar from ebay for about 15 quid) just arrived this morning, so I'm looking forward to trying some different lighting set-ups.

I won't take any credit for the composition as I was trying to recreate a shot from a recent magazine that I snipped out.

Critique is always welcome so please keep it up. I'll work harder if I know someone is looking, even if I'm not quite sure who!

  3. It's your brother! I just signed in using my gmail account and didn't even look at the posting ID. I set up a blog a while back intending to blog the exploits of the boys' football teams but never got round to starting it. I should delete the blog!

  4. Ah, that makes sense. I assumed the U6 U7 must refer to a youth team somehow. Ta for the comments!
